You've said yes, and are about to set the date, so what next? The whole aspect of getting married can be extremely overwhelming to say the least; visions of the gorgeous dress, the beautiful cake, and the perfect day are racing through your head. However, there are a few legal aspects that you have to take into consideration.
The minimum legal age for persons getting married in the UK is 16 (under 18's must have written consent from their parent or guardian)
You must have two witnesses (over 18yrs) present to witness the marriage ceremony.
In England and Wales the ceremony must take place in a registered building / venue, i.e. church, chapel, register office, or premises which have a civil licence.
With the exception of those from the Jewish community, or those performed under a Special / Register General Licence, the ceremony must take place between 8am and 6pm.
You must both be eligible to marry, i.e. not already married.
You will also need to decide on what type of wedding you are going to have, Civil Wedding, Church Wedding or Register Office.
